Marie Wilkerson Benton

Marie Wilkerson Benton, 99, died on Thursday, January 28, at Windsor Point Retirement Community in Fuquay-Varina where she resided for ten years. Marie was a life-long resident of Apex. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Bruce Jones Benton, Sr.

Marie was born Marie Satterfield Wilkerson, in Roxboro, NC to Joe L. Wilkerson and Ethel Mae Satterfield Wilkerson. She was the oldest daughter and was preceded in death by her brothers, Joe R.Wilkerson, and Cecil M. Wilkerson of Apex, and a sister, Dorothy Wilkerson Thompson of Wilmington.

Marie is survived by her three children, Reverend Bruce J. Benton, Jr. (Lynda) Sparta, Barbara Benton Lawson (Mike) ,Hyco Lake, and Anne Benton Sewell (Craig), Goldsboro ; six grandchildren, Brooke Benton (Shay) of Sanford, Blake Benton, (Lynnae) of Lexington, Amy Lawson (Kent) of Chapel Hill, Michael Lawson (Apex) Ashlee Lawson (Raleigh) and Matt Sewell of Wilmington; five great grandchildren, Sam and Finley Benton, Sanford, Cameron and Catherine Benton, Lexington, and Jasper Howard, of Chapel Hill.

The Benton family acknowledges with appreciation the love and care given to Marie by the staff at Windsor Point, and special caregiver, Rachel Adams. It has been a long journey home for Marie, but she has been truly blessed.

A celebration of life will be at Apex Funeral Home on Saturday, January 30, 5:00 pm with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private.
