

Marilyn Jean Thomas, 81, of Cary died Friday, July 25, 2014. She was born in Lincoln, NE on March 10, 1933 to Otto Woltemade and Wilhelamine Poepke Woltemade. Marilyn started her career as a dental hygienist in California where she met her husband of 49 years. They moved to Alabama where they adopted twin babies and then moved to Georgia. Marilyn was President of the Golden Isles Easter Seals charity and opened Coastal Charter Tours on St. Simons Island.
They later relocated to Cary, North Carolina. Shortly thereafter, Marilyn opened Alpha World Travel where for 30 years travel was her passion.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Rainer Thomas, Jr.
She is survived by her son: Lloyd Rainer Thomas, III of Virginia; daughter: Mary Lynn Thomas and husband, Allan Gray of Cary; sister: Marjorie Anthony of Indiana.
The family will hold a Celebration of her Life beginning at 2:00 pm Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at First United Methodist of Cary, 117 S. Academy St., Cary in the Church Sanctuary. Entombment will follow in Raleigh Memorial Park.
Marilyn was a vibrant woman who lived a vivid and joyful life, and she travelled the world to many exotic places. Bright and colorful tones are welcomed at the Celebration of her Life.
