

A native of Terryville, CT, Marjorie was born February 5, 1941 to the late Raymond Malley, Sr. and Alice Wight Malley. She earned her SB from MIT, her MAT from Harvard University, and her PhD in History from the University of California at Berkeley. Marjorie authored many publications in the field of History of Science, including her book, Radioactivity: A History of a Mysterious Science. She was active in education and served on the committee for the National Standards for History.
Marjorie is survived by her husband of 52 years, James Hornell; daughters Tara Maureen Hornell and her husband Murali Prakriya, and Kristin Hornell and her husband Prasad Bopardikar; grandchildren Kiran Nicholas and Aidan Aditya; brother Raymond Malley, Jr. and his wife Josephine; sister Georgia Geyer and her husband George, and sister-in-law Judy Malley.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother John Malley.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm Thursday, January 21 at St. Mary Magdalene Church, 625 Magdala Pl., Apex. A reception immediately following the service will be held at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams St., Apex.
