Martha Emily Stephens Smith, born July 15, 1934 closed her eyes for the final time in this world and opened them in glory on September 20, 2021. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by her family that loved her dearly and pastors praying over her as she entered the gates of Heaven hearing well done good and faithful servant.
A Florida State graduate, she loved teaching and created many memories with dear friends at Blackshear Trail. In her 87 years she lived her life to the fullest with all the things she held near and dear to her heart. Sewing was her passion and gave her great joy creating anything from baby clothes to wedding gowns. Her adventurous spirit lead to her love of travel and she experienced many places in this world that most only dream about seeing. Even as recently as this year you could find her out in her front yard picking up pecans or being outdoors working in her gardens. She was her happiest being with loved ones especially her daughter and grandson. But above all else she loved the Lord & spending time with her church family at First United Methodist Church.
She is immediately survived by her daughter Anna Ward, son in law Jay Ward, grandson Nate Ward and her two sisters Mary Michaud and Linda Taylor. She is preceded in death by her parents Nevette and Cleo Stephens. She also had one grandson that preceded her in death, Christian Ward, that she has now met in heaven for the first time and throwing footballs with over the clouds.
Arrangements will be communicated at a later date when we can all put this pandemic behind us. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to Reflections Hospice, 202 East 4th Avenue Cordele, GA 31015 in memory of her. Her nurse from Heritage, Ginny, was such an amazing and caring nurse for Emily, the family would like to pay it forward and help out other families
