

Mildred Ann Rizzuto, 81, of Apex, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025. She was born on December 28, 1943, in Erie County, New York, to the late Charles Rizzuto and Anne Palumbo Rizzuto.
Mildred proudly served her country in the United States Air Force, stationed at McChord Air Force Base in Washington State. Following her military service, she embarked on a distinguished career with American Airlines. She played a pivotal role in establishing and setting up the airline's hub at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), leaving a lasting legacy in the aviation industry. After years of dedication, she retired from American Airlines and embraced her love for travel by exploring the world.
She was an avid reader. Mildred found joy in literature and cherished quiet moments immersed in stories. She was also a devoted animal lover who shared a special bond with her beloved dog, Caesar.
Mildred is survived by her nephews Michael Joseph Rizzuto Jr. (Sharon) of Pinehurst, NC, and Mike Rizzuto (Angola, NY); nieces Marybeth Crouse of Apex, NC; Terri Lynn Lee of Bayville, NY; Theresa Rizzuto of Angola, NY; Deborah Harshaw (Larry) of The Woodlands, TX; as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was predeceased by her life partner Barbara Tiernan; nephew Kenneth Rizzuto; brothers Michael Rizzuto Sr, Charles Rizzuto, Angelo Rizzuto; and sister Betty Rizzuto.
Mildred’s adventurous spirit and kind heart will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those she leaves behind.
