Nancy Green Garrison died July 11, 2015 after a brief period of declining health. She was born July 12, 1923 in Statesville, NC, the daughter of Ralph DeWitt Green and Nellie Deitz Green. She was predeceased by her sister, Hazel Stilwell and beloved aunt Bertha Deitz.
A shy boy named David fell in love at first site when he saw Nancy in a play in the 5th grade. His love never wavered and he thought her the most beautiful girl in the world for the rest of his life. They were married September 1944 and celebrated their 70th anniversary in 2014. David preceded her in death in April 2015. Their love was special and ever-lasting and they are now together again.
Mom attended Mitchell College and Lenoir Rhyne College. After marriage, she worked for several years as a typist for Dunn and Bradstreet in Winston-Salem. With the birth of their first child, Mom became a full-time homemaker. They moved to Raleigh in 1959 for Dad's job with the ESC.
Mom's interests included researching and publishing her family history, ceramics and gardening. She was a wonderful cook who loved desserts. Mom read the newspaper cover to cover, worked on crossword puzzles and enjoyed watching "her shows". Until her last years, she had a phenomenal memory about everything. Mom was known for her gorgeous blue eyes and warm smile. She was a sweet, loving, selfless and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who always put her family first.
She is survived by her daughters Diane Heath (Jerry) and Cindy Garrison, and beloved granddaughter Alicia Heath. Her family would like to thank the special caregivers with Comfort Keepers / Raleigh in her last months at home, the staff at Morningside Assisted Living for their compassion and care during the last year, the staff at Rex Rehab and Nursing Center in Apex and Transitions LifeCare for her care in her last weeks.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, July 19, 2015, 2pm at Wake Memorial Park, 7002 Green Hope School Road, Cary, NC. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Transitions LifeCare. Condolences to the family at www.ApexFuneral.net
