Richard Honaker passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026 at the age of 75. Born on November 9, 1950, in Oklahoma City to the late Dr. Jack and Frances Honaker, Richard was raised in Frederick, Oklahoma, where he developed the roots of his lifelong wisdom and character.
A devoted family man, Richard is survived by his wife of 52 years, Darlene; his son, Matthew and daughter-in-law, Rebecca; and his cherished five-year-old granddaughter, Raegan. He also leaves behind his sister, Debra Pool; his brother, Michael Honaker; and sister-in-law, Jan Honaker. To his family, Richard was a pillar of love, but his favorite title was "Puppa"—a name given to him by Raegan, who proudly called him her best friend.
Richard honorably served his country for six years in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Whale, a fast-attack nuclear submarine based in Groton, Connecticut. Following his service, he began a distinguished 30-year career with Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE). Starting as a plant operator at Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant by day, while attending and graduating from the University of Maryland by night, he eventually transitioned into recruiting—hiring hundreds of employees—before leading his family to live in Ellicott City, Maryland serving as the Director of Benefits for 9,000 employees at BGE’s corporate headquarters in Baltimore. He was deeply respected by his colleagues for his integrity, tireless work ethic, and leadership.
Beyond his professional life, Richard was a man of many talents. He was a gifted storyteller and writer, a painter of beautiful pictures, a woodworker, and a musician who loved playing guitar and singing. Whether he was traveling, camping, or spending time with loved ones, he brought a wonderful sense of humor and warmth to every moment.
Richard’s memory will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be remembered most for his deep love for his family, his boundless creativity, and the joy he shared with the world.
