

Born on May 20, 1934, in Perham, Minnesota. He graduated from Perham High School and then served 4 years in the Navy as a Petty Officer Second Class. Based in Hutchinson, Kansas he was a Radio Mechanic during the Korean War and a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal.
After Bob was honorably discharged, he began his 33-year career as an engineer for IBM. During this time, he completed his Bachelor of Arts in Economics at Winona State University and moved multiple times to different IBM locations including Reno, NV; Poughkeepsie, NY; Rochester, MN; Austin, TX; Raleigh, NC. He received multiple patents and awards earning the Outstanding Innovation Award and Second Level Invention Achievement as highlights of his career.
Bob volunteered with SHIP at the Clayton Community Center after he retired. He studied and stayed up to date on all Medicare programs helping senior citizens and individuals with disabilities answer questions regarding supplements, claims processing, advantage, prescription drugs and long-term care insurance.
In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and watching sports. His favorite teams to cheer for were Notre Dame, Duke basketball and the Dallas Cowboys.
Bob’s family and Catholic faith was the centerpiece of his life. His proudest accomplishment was his children. He was a caring, thoughtful, and loving father and grandfather.
Bob was married to Agatha “Aggie” Schoeneberger on April 22,1960. He is survived by his wife of 64 years and his 4 children Richard Woessner and wife Lorna of Round Rock, Texas, Stephen Woessner of Raleigh, Mary Raphiou and husband Ibrahim of Cary, Jean Sayre of Cary, and his 5 grandchildren Selisa and Robert Woessner, Noah and Grant Sayre, and Adam Raphiou.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Amelia Woessner and his sister, Mary Jane Silbernagel.
The Funeral mass will be at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Cary on August 19th at 1:00pm. Visitation will be held at 30 minutes before the funeral starts in the gathering space.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Transitions LifeCare - Hospice.
Bob’s family wants to thank Transitions LifeCare and Cambridge Village of Apex for their services and care. Also, thank you to all the family and friends who have offered their love and support.
