Born on May 17, 1990 in Naperville, IL, the son of Dave and Kathie Cochran he came into this world as an 11 lb 1 oz baby. His friends joked that he gained very little weight after that. For a good portion of his younger years he dressed as a Power Ranger and his Mom had to check him every morning before he went to school to make sure he didn’t have a sword or ‘weapon’ hidden in his pants. As a boy, Steve loved hockey and despite being a regular Carolina Hurricanes fan, his favorite team was the NJ Devils and he relished waving his Devils flag in front of the hometown crowd. After exchanging several letters he eventually met his hero Martin Brodeur; their photo together was a memento he always cherished. Steve was a graduate of Middle Creek High School, received his BS at UNC - Wilmington and his dual MBA at the University of Valencia, Spain and Novencia Business School - Paris. For the last 2 years he lived in San Francisco, CA working as a consultant for SAP in Palo Alto, California. While living in Paris he discovered his love of city life and he quickly adopted San Francisco as his new home; Delores Park was a favorite spot to ‘chill’. Steve had an incredible passion for people; he loved ‘hanging out’ with friends, spending holidays with family and dreaming of new places to visit and experience. His energy and enthusiasm for life, work and play allowed him to build a large number of acquaintances around the world. All who knew him will never forget his sharp wit, love of life, infectious laugh and beautiful smile. He left us far too soon and we will miss him dearly.
The family is comforted knowing that Stephen was welcomed into Heaven by Jesus and his grandfathers, Patrick Philbin and Donald Cochran.
He is survived by his parents, Dave and Kathie Cochran; three brothers, Brian, Daniel and Jeffrey; grandmothers, Virginia Cochran and Mary Philbin; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held 11am Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Hope Community Church, 821 Buck Jones Rd, Raleigh, NC 27606. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Memorials may be made in honor of Stephen to charity of your choice.
