Thomas Keith Posey

Mr. Posey was born on January 4, 1955, to Carl and Evelyn Posey in Decatur, Alabama. In the early 1960s, the family relocated to Apex, North Carolina. Keith attended the local Apex schools and soon began his distinguished athletic activities as early as the age of 10.

Keith participated in Apex recreation sports of football, baseball, and basketball. He was a pivotal player in all of his sports activities. These years of playing in a variety of sports helped to prepare him for his sports future at Apex High School. His abilities helped carry his teams to winning a variety of championships and awards.

Keith was a distinguished 1973 graduate of Apex High School. He graduated as an honor student, a member of the National Honor Society, Monogram Club President, Math Club and member of the Future Farmers of America. He was voted Outstanding Senior and Apex High Outstanding Athlete.

After graduation, Keith attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he became a lifetime member of the Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity. In 1978 he received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Geology. While Keith opted not to pursue athletics in college, he did participate as captain of the intramural softball league.

Keith’s major in Geology lead him on a path to the state of Texas that is rich in gas and oil. He began his career working on a rig in the Gulf and distinguished himself as a Senior Explorationist in his field and finally a Lead Asset Geoscientist. Since 1978, he enjoyed a successful and rewarding career until his retirement in 2015. He raised two children, enjoyed golfing, enjoyed diving and especially enjoyed traveling to other parts of the world for work and pleasure.

Survivors include his sons, Kyle Posey (Holly), of Houston, Texas and Alex Posey of Denver, Colorado; his mother, Evelyn Roberts Posey of Zebulon, NC; sister, Debbie Posey Nuding (Michael) of Zebulon, NC; grandchildren, Liam Posey and Daisy Posey of Houston, Texas, nephews Robert Kaczynski (Brandt) Wilmington, NC, Michael Kaczynski, Rocky Point, NC and niece Emily Kaczynski, Youngsville, NC. Mr. Posey is preceded in death by his father, Carl Junior Posey.

A Celebration of Life visitation with family and friends will be held at Apex Funeral Home, Apex, NC, on October 27, 2023 from 1:30pm until 3:30pm. Keith’s final resting place will be at the Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain, NC.

In early 2000, Keith became involved as a volunteer and later served as a board member with the local Katy Christian Ministries in Katy, Texas. This is a 501c3 organization that helps local families and individuals to fight poverty, food insecurities, domestic violence and sexual assault.
