Born in Queens, New York, Tom was the son of Thomas and Marie Quirk. He grew up in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey alongside his siblings Daniel, Dennis, and Barbara.
Tom married the love of his life, Coleen Quirk (née Quinn), on September 24, 1972. Their love story began when they met at a Catholic Youth Organization dance when Tom was 16 years old and Coleen was 15 years old. They remained high school sweethearts who shared 54 wonderful years of marriage together. They began their married life in Leonia, New Jersey before purchasing their first home in Sparta, New Jersey, where they would start a family.
In 1996, he moved to Cary, North Carolina with his wife and children, where he continued building a life centered around family, hard work, and community.
He was a proud and devoted father to four children: Tom Quirk, Owen Quirk (Shandra), Tim Quirk (Tabitha), and his beloved daughter Erin. He was also a proud Papa to Quinn, Millie, Ella, Desmond, Maxon, and Connor.
Tom attended St. Cecilia’s High School before continuing his education at St. Peter’s College. He later earned a Master’s Degree from Montclair State University. He began his career as a high school teacher before shifting paths and joining UPS after completing his advanced engineering degree. Tom spent 28 years with UPS in a variety of roles, most notably serving as a Plant Engineer. After retiring, he returned to education as a substitute teacher at Holly Springs High School.
Tom loved spending time with his family above all else. Whether it was vacations at the beach, boating at the lake, or simply being together, family meant the world to him. He also enjoyed woodworking and was known for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor.
He was a loyal and steadfast friend to many, always ready with a helping hand or an ear to listen.
A hardworking man with a generous spirit, Tom was a loving husband, an amazing father, and the very best Papa.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
