A life-long North Carolinian, he was born April 21, 1923, to Wiley and Pearl King on the property which is now known as Umstead State Park.
Wallace was married to the love of his life, Evelyn Smith King, for 74 years. They were blessed with four children, Carol King Bordeaux, Linda King Towson (predeceased), Gary Wallace King, and Joy King Beke. Wallace retired after a career at the North Carolina Department of Transportation. He spent his retirement enjoying his tractors, all things John Deere, swapping stories at Carpenter Farm Supply, and the outdoors as much as possible. Our “Pa” loved his overalls and a good "chew of tobacco." He affectionately referred to loved ones as "son" regardless of your gender.
Family and friends will greatly miss his kind and generous heart and his "storytelling" of days gone by. Survivors include his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous other family and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11am Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Apex Funeral Home Chapel, 550 W. Williams St, Apex, NC 27502. The family will receive friends from 10am to 11am prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27612.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
