Barry is survived by the love of his life and wife of more than 21 years, Elizabeth Johnson, his children: daughter Amanda (Kevin) Baxley, daughter Cynthia (Brendan) Mahoney, daughter Melissa, Son Barry, daughters Julianna and Evelyn Johnson; Parents Larry and Carlean Johnson; Sister Sandie Wilson; Grandchildren Troy, Kody, Toby and Lucy Baxley and Charlotte and Owen Mahoney.
Barry was born in Orange, California. He moved to the High Desert during his elementary years and never left. He loved living in the open space where he could drive his 1972 Comet GT fast and race his motorcycles. Barry graduated from Apple Valley High in 1979. Barry joined Operating Engineers Local 12 in August of 1980. Barry Johnson Equipment was started. He took pride running his D-6 Dozer for the next 35 years. He was very well known and liked in the construction field. Working for major companies such as Ecco, Fulton Construction, C.W. Poss, A.C.I., Sukut, Mesa and the list goes on. There wasn't a forman in Southern California who didn't enjoy working with Barry and admiring his skill and talent. In the mid 1990's Barry enjoyed constructing individual housing pads for the citizens of the High Desert and beyond. His work was genuine and without a doubt nearly perfect. If he wasn't on his Dozer you could find him in his barn or around his property working on a project. Barry was a skilled hunter and avid fisherman. He, his wife Liz and children spent summers on the Colorado River, High Sierras, Kauai and Montana. But his most important job was being a daddy. He shared his love for all these things with them. For the last 21 years his best friend and wife Liz was right by his side through the good and the bad, they always had eachothers back. Knowing the Lord called him home and he is no longer in pain and suffering gives great comfort to his family. Barry was a fighter and strong willed to the end. He will sorely be missed.
A Memorial Service is planned for June 9th, at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Apple Valley Ca. The viewing will be at 10am, and the service at 11am.
