Back in the 1980s, I had "Dr. B" or "The Bat" for both first year Hebrew and first year Greek.  At that point, as I recall, he was beginning his 22nd consecutive year of teaching biblical Hebrew.  He was a wonderfully patient teacher who helped all of us as we struggled with the languages.  May his widow, Jan, find peace even as she grieves.

I had Dr. Battenfield as my Hebrew professor when a student at Grace Theological Seminary!  A super professor and skilled in teaching Hebrew as well as studies in the Old Testament !  Sad to hear of his passing.

I had Dr Battenfield for Hebrew when I was a student at Grace. I was so fearful of learning the language and he was patient and encouraging. I learned to love Hebrew as a result of having him for my professor.
