John loved family and friends, the outdoors, spent many vacations traveling, fishing, camping in the High Sierras and Utah, and was a lifelong Dodgers fan. He became adept at playing pickleball in Arizona where he spent the last few winters. He was a talker and a storyteller but also enjoyed time at home pursuing projects in auto mechanics, woodworking, gardening, landscaping, and was always learning new trades. Many people enjoyed John for his kindness, his sense of humor, boundless energy, and competitive nature.
John had a successful 41-year career in education as a high school auto shop teacher and administrator. He had a passion for career and technical education (CTE). He was the CTE director for Apple Valley Unified School District, as well as CTE coordinator for San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools. He spent his early career in sales for Universal Technical Institute and later as the Director of the program. In addition, he was an instructor for the University of California, Riverside teacher education program.
John was a hero to his family. As a husband, John was loving, kind, and turned each day into a reason to smile. As Dad, John was not only a hero and mentor to his children, but he was very proud and loved them with his entire heart. As Papa, John loved his grandchildren and formed special bonds with each of them. He was the best husband, Dad, and Papa we could have asked for, and he will be truly missed. John is survived by his wife, Julie; his children Sarah, Tim, Ryan and Deborah; his grandchildren Megan, Talan, Adalyn and Evan.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 3rd at 1 p.m. in the chapel at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Apple Valley.
