Maria Concepcion Nuno Sawyer

María was born on December 18, 1956 in Jalisco, Mexico to Jose Nuño Orozco and Josefina Hernandez

Mendez. Most of her childhood and teenage years were spent in Mexico. At the age of 9 her father

passed away and in 1977 she and her family moved to California. They came to the United States for a

better future and in 1983 she met her husband Kenneth Sawyer and they married on April 29, 1996 and

remand married until Kenneth death on December 17, 2016.

María had such a great spirit, was very kind, loving, funny and outgoing. There was never a dull moment

being around her. She loved to make people laugh and her laugh was unforgettable, it was loud and

contagious and could fill the room with so much joy. María was a hopeless romantic loved listening and

dancing to Spanish love songs from the 70s and 80s. Most importantly she loved being with her family.

She is survived by her four children; daughter María Nielsen and husband Gary, three sons Oscar

Barragan and wife Acerina, Kenneth Sawyer II, and John Sawyer; one brother Jorge Hernandez and one

sister Martha Aceves; eight grandchildren: Leah Soto-Sellers and husband Travis, Leslie Soto, Priscilla

Soto-Murphy, Demitri Rivera, Amanda Rivera, Czerina Perez, Adrick Barragan, and Layla Barragan, three

great grandchildren: Isabella Murphy, Jesiah Herbert and Kaidyn Lankford.

She is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Sawyer, her parents Jose Nuño Orozco and Josefina

Hernandez Mendez, and granddaughter Jaylene Barragan.
