

She was born and lived in London, Arkansas; a farm outside of Muskogee, Oklahoma; Covina, Victorville, and Apple Valley, California. She married Frank Dennis Popineau, Jr. in 1949 in Covina, California. Her only child was Debra Sue Popineau-Baker.
Sue Popineau (known as “Aunt Sue” to many folks) and Frank D. Popineau, Jr. helped found the Victorville First Assembly of God Church in October 1950. This was their life work, and they loved the church and its folks throughout their lives.
Sue Popineau obtained her Bachelor of Arts in General Studies, with an emphasis in History in 1987, from California State University at San Bernardino. She worked on her college degree since 1948, and never gave up.
M. Popineau was employed in various telecommunication jobs starting in 1948 and ending at Continental Telephone Company, Victorville, California. Her favorite story was about arranging telecommunications availability for a visit by President John F. Kennedy to the Ridgecrest Naval Airfare Testing Facility in 1963. She later worked for Safeway Stores, alongside her husband, to put her daughter Debra through Yale Law School. Sue Popineau subsequently taught Adult Literacy at Victor Valley College. She taught Sunday School at her church for adults and children, helped run a Golden Agers programs and generally faithfully attended her church, supporting it in any way she could.
Sue Popineau was preceded in death by her parents Paul Anderson Blackard and Maude Ann Lucas Blackard, her husband Frank Dennis Popineau, Jr., her brothers Gorman Ray Blackard and Carl Anderson Blackard, and numerous other relatives. Surviving her are her daughter Debra Sue Popineau-Baker and son-in-law Bryan D. Baker, along with many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, cousins and in-laws, and numerous friends.
Her funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday June 22, 2018, at First Assembly of God Church, 15260 Nisqualli Road, Victorville, California 92395, with the Reverend Doctor John C. Martin officiating. The graveside service at Oakdale Memorial Park, 1401 Grand Avenue, Glendora, California 91740, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2018, with the Reverend Loren D. Popineau officiating.
