Beloved Father and Grandfather (Pa), Tony Roman Carlos, 80, peacefully departed this life on July 28,2016 at his home in Apple Valley. He was surrounded by his family. Tony was born on August 21, 1935 in Sloan, Nevada to Norberto and Petra
(Roman) Carlos. With his 16 brothers and sisters he spent much of his young years in the small desert mining town of Chubbuck, California. There was one school house, one store, and a concrete slab dance floor for dancing on the weekends.
He developed a very strong work ethic at a very young age. What money he and his siblings did earn went to his parents to supplement and sustain their modest household. In 1954 Tony married Inez Alva and they later moved to Needles, CA where they began building their family of seven children. Shortly thereafter they moved to Oro Grande to join his parents and other family members for housing and work opportunities at Riverside Cement Company. While living there he took welding classes and mastered his trade as a welder and millwright. At this time he also became a San Bernardino County Sheriff Reservist. This too was a family affair with two of his brothers. In 1967 Tony met his second wife Judy they added 2 more children to the kid count. They shared a dream to one day become self employed. Never giving up, 1985 they decided to trust and sacrifice everything, which included resigning from their current jobs as well as giving up their retirement to create a company that would not only create a comfortable living for their family, but jobs and commerce for the city that they loved. They were able to donate to many philanthropic causes. He was also a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge and the Eagles Lodge. He was loved and respected by friends, family and employees. Tony’s contractual relationship with Mitsubishi Cement Corporation also facilitated many opportunities to reach out, create awareness and contribute financially to various causes throughout the High Desert. This is also where he forged some of the greatest personal and professional friendships of his life. He loved to be around people, he loved to listen and he always offered to help. He found joy in serving and entertaining whether it was on his boat at Cottonwood cove, his home or even around the table of his restaurant, J&T’s Branding Company (which no one was ever able to pick up the tab). One of his greatest acquisitions was winning a bar (The Side Pocket) in a pool game. His generosity was boundless. Tony also became an animal lover. Living with Judy it was impossible not to. He was not only beloved by humans but his own companion and grand doggers were actually elated to see him and even fought to not go back home just like his grandchildren. He always had 2 cookie jars. One for the kids and one for the dogs. He was affectionately known as Pa, and Grandpa not only to his biological grandchildren but any child that passed through his doors. He was a father that loved unconditionally. He had a heart of gold and his biggest message was to always forgive and love one another. He was a shining example of this. He has left a lasting legacy to all that were blessed to know him.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents Norberto and Petra Carlos, and his wife
Judy. Also, brothers Joe, Jessie, Freddie, and Phillip. Sisters, Herlinda, Hermalinda, Mary, Lupe and grandson Mikie. He is survived by daughters Margie
