

Alfred A. Howard, 80, died Monday, April 23, 2012, at an Arlington hospital. Service: 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Moore Funeral Home. Interment: Parkdale Cemetery, Arlington. He was born Feb. 24, 1932, in Gunter, one of 10 children born to Minnie B. Leverett Howard and Walter Charles Howard. He lived in Arlington most of his life, attending Arlington public schools, including Grace Chapel. He also attended Arlington State College. Alfred was a talented toolmaker, craftsman and an amazing gardener. He was a member of the Arlington Genealogical Society and loved family history, spending time researching in small-town courthouses and cemeteries. He was retired from Collins Radio in 1988 and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his life partner, Wilma Prater, and stepson Bart Conner. Survivors: Brothers, Eldon E. Howard of San Antonio and Wayne Howard of Honolulu, Hawaii; stepfamily, Kathy Godsey, James Atkinson and Michael Mashburn and their children and grandchildren; and nieces and nephews, Ila Ruth Dennis, Peggy Howard, Daryl Howard, Charles Howard, Linda Kingsbury, Penny Robertson, Sue Stepanek, Veeta Biggers, Lana Carr, Walie Francks, Barbara Ann Barnett, Stewart Francks, Tommy Francks, Louise Drennan, Thomas Farris, Kay Hensley, Michael Farris, Pam Farris, Judith Gall, Victoria Egan, Gery Pope, Larry Howard and Ronald Howard.
