Alma Jean Edwards

Alma was born in Athens, Ohio, on January, 8, 1931, one of seven children, to Lewis Francis Gloeckner and Ella Louise Wilson-Gloeckner. Alma’s family was raised in both Athens and Columbus, where Alma graduated from Holy Family High School in 1949, actively involved in cheerleading. Alma earned a certificate in Business Administration from Michigan State University.

Alma worked several years for the Mississippi Department of Audit and then moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi and began working for Mid River Services. She then moved on to work 15 years for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for the State of Mississippi. During her time here, she helped raise money to help build a center affiliated with the University Mississippi Medical Center. She rounded out her career, in 1992, after working 17 years at the Catholic Diocese of Jackson, Mississippi and was able to build a permanent foundation for the Bishop.

After Alma retired, she moved back to Athens, Ohio. Alma and her children devoted much of their time giving back to the community’s homeless, through clothing collections and other means. She also enjoyed spending time gardening & canning and was a great candy maker, especially, Christmas candies.

Alma is preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Edwards; children, David (Belinda) and Keith Edwards; and grandson Johnny Edwards.

Alma is survived by her daughter, Kathy; granddaughter, Rachel; two great grandsons, Jimmy and Joseph Edwards; and two great-great grandchildren, Alieyah and Joseph Aydrian Edwards. Alma was also a loving aunt to many nieces & nephews. She will be greatly and dearly missed by many relatives and friends.

Alma and her family want to express how grateful they are for the care provided by the hospice care team at Encompass Hospice.

Visitation will be held Monday, September 3, 2018, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, September 4, 2018, 11:00 AM, at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2100 North Davis Drive, Arlington, Texas. Entombment at Greenwood Memorial Park and Mausoleum.
