She was born May 17, 1938 in Olney, Texas to Harold and Rosa Fitzwater. Betty was raised in Dallas, Texas and graduated from Forrest Avenue High School in 1956. She married Tracy Mack Purser in 1958 and the couple had two children.
Betty Jo Purser was a woman of charm, laughter, and remarkable luck—whether in matters of life, love, or at the slot machines. She embraced each day with a vibrant spirit, finding joy in her family, friends, country music, and a refreshing beer by the pool. Always impeccably dressed, Betty shined whether she was two-stepping at the Fort Worth Stockyards, relaxing with her dogs, or taking a spontaneous trip to Oklahoma, trying her fortune at the slots—a pursuit at which she seemed naturally gifted. Her good fortune extended far beyond the gaming tables, evident in the deep bonds and love she shared with everyone around her.
Betty enjoyed a dedicated and successful career in the transportation industry, spending 20 years in claims at Texas Oklahoma Express before joining Roadrunner, where she thrived for 23 years. Her hard work and talent were honored when she was named “Customer Service Representative of the Year” in 1990, a testament to her passion, determination, and ability to connect with others.
We will remember Betty as a woman full of love, wit & charm—someone who never met a stranger and made everyone feel like family. We’ll remember her as a devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, a stylish and spirited woman who loved her family fiercely. Betty lived life on her own terms & left us with so many unforgettable memories.
