Bill was born on February 23, 1934 in Guthrie, Oklahoma to his parents Edgar & Opal Stultz. He married his loving & beautiful wife Mary Ethelene on September 3, 1955 in Archer City, Texas.
Bill came to Arlington in 1963 from Holiday, Texas to work for Jack Cooper Transports (formerly United Transports and he retired from there in 2004 after 41 years.
Bill and Ethelene were blessed with 2 children, a daughter, Pam Walker and her husband Chris and his son and fishing buddy Doug and his wife Cindy both of Arlington. The Lord called his loving wife home March 14, 2010 after a battle with Alzheimer’s. He retired to commit fully to her care which he did unselfishly until she passed away from complications of the disease.
The joy of Bill and Ethelene’s life was of course their grandchildren. They were blessed with 4 grandchildren, Michael Walker of Mansfield, Candice Joplin & her husband Greg of Rendon, Bryan Walker and his wife Haley of Arlington & Courtney Valentino and her husband Danny of Kennedale.
The blessings didn’t stop there as they were also blessed with 8 great-grandchildren, Madison, Laynee, Roland, Deacon, Emma, Weston, Eli & Larkin who were truly the joys of his life and never failed to bring a smile to his face.
Bill and Ethelene made a very important purchase in 1984 when they made the decision to purchase a property on Lake Granbury. This became a gathering place for our family after that and became known to us all as “Granny & Papa’s Lake. Many hours of fun in the sun were had by all by either fishing, teaching the kids how to water ski or just hanging out on the lake or at Sandy Beach. The lake’s proximity to home made it a great get-away for them to enjoy often.
Bill and Ethelene were their kids, grandkids & great-grandkids, biggest fans & supporters in all their endeavors, rarely did they miss a game or an event. They were often designated as the honorary grandparents for the kids’ sports teams, a title which they were proud to accept. This was a tradition that did not change even after his Ethelene passed away.
Bill was widowed in March 2010 and God saw fit to bring love back into his life when he met Delores “Jo” Smith. They both felt blessed to have found each other after both had gone through the same difficult experience of losing a spouse. They enjoyed many of the same interests and therefore enjoyed each other’s company and even did some traveling up until Bill’s health began to fail over the past year.
Bill & Ethelene after moving to Arlington found a church home at Woodland West Baptist Church (previously Milby Road Baptist) as they knew the importance of having their family in church. Bill served as a deacon, maintenance man, coach for church sport’s teams & as the pastor once said he was a “Corner of the Eye Man” as he was always their serving in some compacity. Bill & Ethelene later found a new church home at Woods Chapel Baptist Church, after the passing of Ethelene he continued to serve there and did so with a glad heart until his body began to fail him and he was unable to attend.
Bill loved Jesus with his whole heart, and he wanted everyone to know Him as their Lord & Savior. He was an incredible Spiritual Leader to his entire family and that was and is his greatest Legacy. It was once said by one of his grand sons-in-law “Papa set a very high bar on what it means to be a devoted husband” and no truer words were spoken.
Bill Stultz was 91 years old, a “Life Well Lived” and he was blessed to remain active up to his 90th year. God is so Good!
