Carole Ann Gilbert Whatley

Funeral: 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in Moore Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Dr. David Mosser. Friends and family are welcome to gather at Moore Funeral Home from 11:30 a.m. until the service begins.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make donations to a charity of choice in Carole Whatley's name.

She was born July 18, 1942, in St. Joseph, Mo., to the late Harold and Charlene Gilbert. She attended William Jewel College, the University of Missouri and graduated from Kent State University with a degree in education. When Carole was in the seven grade, the love of her life moved into the house next door. James Whatley and Carole were united in marriage Aug. 31, 1963. They moved from Missouri, to Ohio, and eventually settled in Arlington in 1978. Together, they owned and operated two Goodyear Service stores until Jim's death in 1983. Along the way, they raised three children: Jill, Michael and Julia. Carole was a member of First United Methodist Church of Arlington and attended the Cokesbury Sunday School Slass. She did volunteer work for Arlington Life Shelter, Arlington Charities and Cookies for Kairos. Carole's life was devoted to her family and friends, who were blessed to have her warmth and love. She delighted in travel and spent endless hours planning her great adventures.

Carole Whatley touched the lives of so many people with her kindness and generosity, and maintained her sweet spirit until the end.

She was preceded in death by husband, James Whatley.

Survivors: Mother, Charlene Gilbert Balwanz of Arlington; daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Jeff Brzozowski of Little Rock, Ark.; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Stephanie Whatley of Seattle, Wash.; daughter, Julia Whatley of McKinney; grandchildren, Andrew and Julia Brzozowski, Rachel and Megan Whatley, and soon-to-be grandson, William James Vith; brother, William Gilbert of Mansfield, Ohio; sister, Shirley Durham of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and dear friends, Alice Thorburn and Sandra Hixon.e direction of Moore Funeral Home, Arlington, TX.
