Darrell W. Gunderson

Darrell William Gunderson, age 76, of Bedford, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2013 after a lengthy struggle with lung cancer. Known as “Gundy” to family and friends, he was born in Vermillion, South Dakota on November 30, 1936, son of William Edward and Dorothy Anderson Gunderson. Darrell graduated from high school in Nogales, Arizona and was a member of the U.S. Air Force, achieving the rank of Captain before leaving the service in 1967. Following that, he had a distinguished career in aviation and was a Captain for American Airlines until his retirement in 1996. Gundy had a passion for computers and technology, and could take apart, fix or build just about anything.

Darrell is survived by Shawn Gunderson Coons (husband Peter), and Suzanne Gunderson Crisafulli (husband Chris), daughters of Joni Hunter Gunderson. He was predeceased by wife of 17 years, Kathy Frerichs Gunderson (July 2010) and is survived by step-daughters Tami Frerichs and Jennifer Frerichs . He has five granddaughters: Hillary and Jillian Coons, Isabelle, Emily and Abigail Crisafulli. Darrell is survived by his sisters Emma Jean Gunderson and Becky Gunderson, both of Fort Collins, Colorado. An intimate graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 7 at Moore Cemetery in Arlington, Texas.
