

Doris Lindsey Greene, formerly of Escondido, California, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2017, at the age of 94. Doris was with her children in her final days, and passed away peacefully, surrounded by their love.
Survivors include her daughter Sally L. Moore of Rapid City, South Dakota, son and daughter-in-law W. Michael Greene and Mary Kay Greene of Arlington, Texas, and daughter Marti Krechnyak of Grants Pass, Oregon, her grandchildren Jeremy R. Moore of Swansea, Illinois, Lisa K. Matyiku of Arlington, Texas, Michael D. Krechnyak of Grants Pass Oregon, Rachel L. Krechnyak of San Diego, California, Charles A. Greene III of Arlington, Texas, and Christian A. Greene of Arlington, Texas, and her great grand children Megan K. Matyiku and Ryan V. Matyiku of Arlington, Texas. Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Charles A. Greene, her sister Martha Wolverton, her brothers Wesley Lindsey and Hilton Lindsey, and her grandson Joshua Moore.
Doris was born in Cotton Plant, Arkansas, on November 17, 1922 to William Edward Lindsey and Nancy Lane Lindsey. She graduated from High School in nearby McCrory, Arkansas, and worked as a bank teller at Worthen Bank in Little Rock, where at the end of World War II she met and fell in love with Charles A. “Chuck” Greene. Doris and Chuck were married May 7, 1948, in Monterrey, Mexico, and remained married until Chuck’s death in 2006. Chuck had a successful career as a US Army officer, and Doris travelled the world as an officer‘s wife. Doris lived in France, Germany, Thailand, Laos, and many parts of the US.
After retiring from the Army, Doris and Chuck settled in Escondido, California. Doris moved to Arlington, Texas, after Chuck’s death in 2006, where she remained until her death.
Doris was a beautiful woman, filled with joy and a passion for life. She always had a smile and a positive attitude, no matter what. Doris struggled with Alzheimer’s disease during the last 15 years of her life, and her family rejoices that she is now at peace.
An informal Reception celebrating Doris’ life will be held at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 North Davis Drive in Arlington on Tuesday, January 24th from 4 - 8 p.m. Afterwards, Doris’ remains will be interred with those of her husband, Colonel Charles A. Greene, at the Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma, California. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Her family gives heartfelt thanks and recognition to Mickie Putman, family friend, volunteer, and companion to Doris for the last 10 years, and to the staff at the Claire Bridge Memory Care Unit at Brookdale Pecan Park in Arlington, where Doris was a resident in her final years.
