Gilbert Erwin Williams, Mansfield TX, age 86, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday May 29, 2025. There are no tears in Heaven, he is with his Lord and Savior and finally reunited with the love of his life Sherry Lynn, and that reunion must have been a sight to see.
Gil was born on April 2, 1939, in Cushing, OK to Maurice and Helen Williams. The family moved throughout OK and TX for most of his younger years for his father’s job in the oil fields, before the family settled in Dallas, TX where Gil graduated from Sunset High School in 1957. In younger years he participated in Boy Scouts of America, Circle Ten Council, from 1948-1955, eventually earning “star scout”. After meeting on a blind date, he married his “most beautiful” love Sherry Miller in 1960, they had 55 years together. They had 2 children and 5 grandsons together, whom they adored spending time with. He was an amazing example of what a husband and father should look like, always present, supportive, honorable and loyal. Gil was a good Christian man, strong in his faith, which helped get him through his wife’s passing. Gil found a church home at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, and was welcomed with open arms, attending as many “senior” events as he could get to. He loved his people there and they loved him.
Gil graduated from University of Texas at Arlington with an Electrical Technology degree in 1968. He went on to Southern Methodist University to earn a Marketing Managing and BBA in 1976. Gil began his career with Western Union in Dallas as a Tech Service Engineer then worked his way up to national sales and VP positions within area tech companies, before retiring to focus on his golf game. He took a part-time job as a Marshall at Walnut Creek Country Club after retiring. He and his “Peckerwoods”, his golfing buddies, had weekly rounds and meals scheduled.
