

Harry graduated from Abilene High School in 1953 and Kansas State University in 1957. While a student at Kansas State, he was a member of the Alpha Epsilon Rho Scholastic, Student’s Sports Director for KS DF-FM Radio and Corporal Lieutenant Commander of Tae Air Force RTC Detachment. He was also active in the Delta Tau Delta Social Fraternity where he served as Intramural Sports and Rush Chairman. After graduation, Harry proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.
Harry was employed by Lederle Laboratories as a Salesman, District Manager, and Special Account Manager throughout his 36-year civilian career. While at Lederle, he was awarded the “Gold Cup” top sales award seven times and was also recognized as the top salesman for the parent company American Cynamid, winning the “Golden Oval” award.
Harry married his best friend and love of his life, Margaret Esterl on August 30, 1958. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a dear friend to all who knew him. Prior to settling in Arlington, Texas in 1975, their family lived in Topeka, Kansas; Omaha, Nebraska; and Kansas City, Kansas.
Harry was president of the Breakfast Optimist Club in Topeka, Kansas, and a Lector at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church for 40 years in Arlington. He enjoyed life with Margaret, cheering on the Powercats and wearing purple, Wednesday night poker, Tuesday morning breakfast, boating, skiing, fishing, and loved being a coach, statistician, and advisor to his children and grandchildren’s sporting activities.
Harry is survived by his wife Margaret of 63 years, daughter, Linda Spradlin and husband, Bill; daughter, Susan Godfrey; son, Joe Shank and wife, Kathleen; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Wiese and husband, Richard; Melissa Calhoun and husband, Ryan; Steven Spradlin and wife, Taylor; Rachel Bumpus and husband, Kent; Meredith Khonsari and husband, Neema; Graham Shank; Samuel Shank; and five great-grandsons, William Wiese, George Calhoun, James Calhoun, Charlie Calhoun, and Sebastian Bumpus.
Visitation will be held at Moore Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 @ 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm. Funeral Mass at Most Blessed Sacrament Church on Thursday, November 11, 2021 @11:00 am Private Internment at the Dallas National Cemetery.
