

A long-time resident of Arlington, she and her husband Tom became community leaders through various organizations.
Helen came into the world as the third daughter of immigrants who operated a farm outside of Cleveland, Ohio. Education was important to her as she strived to complete advanced courses in a rural school then paid for two years of community college. Then she enlisted in the Air Force where she met and married her beloved Tom. Four children later, she earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas.
The Chick family finally landed in Arlington, Texas in 1963. Helen served as a troop leader, Sunday school teacher and substitute teacher while active in her children’s lives. She and Tom were driving forces behind the Arlington Promenaders square dance club as well as the Circle 8 club. After her husband’s death she became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Arlington.
She is survived by four children: Tom Chick and wife Regue, Carol
Haar and husband Steve, Stephanie Racine with husband Robert and their two daughters Jennifer Cobb and Nicole Herring, and Linda Peters with husband Brian and their children Miranda and Hal. She has 6 great grandchildren; Tucker and Mason Herring and Harley, Kaley, Austin and Haley.
A private graveside service will be held Saturday for family members.
