Dr. Callicutt was such an inspiration to me while I was in the Ph.D. program at UTA!  I am sure he will be missed!

Dr. Callicutt was a wonderful person and boss.  I worked in his office for eleven years.  Condolences to Ann and their children.

On behalf of the Callicutt family, I would like to thank each and every person that has commented here. Every son thinks his father was a great man but I (and my siblings) know our father was!

I have tried to contact the people that have left messages here, and hope that those that I have missed understand that it was not possible to reach them.

What I remember most about my father was that he was a humble man that treated everyone he came into contact with, with respect. I hope to live up to his example.

Jim was my Dean from summer 1974 until today.  I will always think of him as my Dean and my friend.  We shared many wonderful times together at school and outside school.  Among his many qualities, he was kind, caring, intelligent, and a gentle man.  I was proud to call him my friend.  He encouraged me to assume leadership responsibilities at UTA and was always complimentary of my various accomplishments.  Jim enjoyed my cars about as much as I do!  We shared many a story about cars - and yes, about his motor cycle as well!  Someone mentioned his love of coffee at the funeral service.  On one occasion in my early years at the school, Jim surprised me when he encouraged the cooffee pot to complete its brewing with, "Talk to me sweet lips!"  It was my first time to observe the more loose, fun loving side of Jim.  I already miss Jim.  My heart goes out to all family members and loved ones, Ann in particular.  May the many fond memories help carry you through this difficult time.  I treasure the times shared with Jim and will always have him with me in some way.

I didn't know Mr. Callicutt, but we should all be so fortunate to know someone like him, and have such beautiful words written about us. I am sorry for your loss, he will be truly missed.

Dr. Callicutt was a warm and wonderful friend and colleague.  He will be greatly missed.

Dr. Callicutt was "The man who made a difference" in my life.  In 1992 I entered the school of Social Work to be matched with him as my academic advisor. About a year and a half into the program I found it very difficult to work fulltime and go to school.  As I wept in his office about quiting the program he offered the option of Interdisplinary Studies as fewer hours were required for the degree.  I chose the MA instead of the MSW and he was there with me cheering me on all of the way.  At gradution in 1995 I gave him a plaque that read FOR SERVICES RENDERED ABOVE AND BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY. He and his wife have had me to their home for holiday dinner and after graduation we met for lunch every few months. I will never forget him.

My condolensces to Dr Callicuts family. I will never forget my semester with Dr Callicut when he took us on a field trip to the federal women's prison in Fort Worth. He remains to this day one of my favorite professor within the School of Social Work at UTA.

Dr. Callicutt was devoted to the School of Social Work at UTA and to the social work students attending there.  A more courtly and courteous person would be hard to find.  He was my mentor in getting involved with the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and always was there to celebrate my achievements.  His work with mental health benefitted countless others...he will be greatly missed.

I took Dr. Callicutt's Policy class in 2004. I wasn't terribly excited about the class, as my focus was direct practice. Dr. Callicutt allowed us to research policies that were of interest to us and as a result, I was able to learn a great deal about "Dangerous Severe Personality Disorder" (DSPD) which is a government-invented diagnosis in the United Kingdom. With this research project, policy became so much more interesting to me! I have been able to use the knowledge I gained  many times since graduating from UTA, particularly in my work with an inpatient psychiatric population. It was a hard class and Dr. Callicutt was a tough professor, and I was able to learn so much while I worked to meet his exacting standards. May you take comfort, in this difficult time, that Dr. Callicutt made quite a difference in the world. He leaves a lasting contribution to the heart and soul of social work. - warmly, daria
