Janna Murray Alexander, age 85, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 23rd surrounded by her loving family. We lost a beloved wife, adored mother, cherished grandmother, loyal sister and giving friend.
A born and raised West Texas girl, Janna was born in Pampa on December 24th, 1935. She graduated from Midland High School and continued her education as a Texas Tech Red Raider which is where she met the love of her life, Wick Alexander. Janna completed her education at the University of Texas - Houston where she earned her Masters in Physical Therapy. In 1964, she and Wick moved to Arlington to establish his orthodontic practice and to raise their young family.
Janna’s life was marked by being an obedient follower of Jesus and in loving and serving others. Bringing people together over home-cooked meals and her famous pecan pralines brought much joy to Janna. She was a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she willingly gave her time to the children and youth ministries. Generations of Arlington kids enjoyed swimming in her Texas Tech pool and celebrating with her well-loved banana split parties. As her own children left the home, Janna devoted her time to her “Young Mothers” groups. Every week for many years, Janna would fill her living room with young moms and share her experiences and wisdom of being a wife and mother. Whether it was teaching how to care for a baby or demonstrating how to make chicken enchiladas, Janna was a generous mentor and friend by providing a safe and fun place for women to be loved and encouraged.
Janna was preceded in death by her parents, Dolly and Dean Murray, and her sister, Etta Ruth Gee.
Janna is survived by her faithful husband of 62 years, Dr. Wick Alexander, of Arlington; son, Dr. Chuck (Keri) Alexander of Montrose, Colorado; son, Dr. Moody (Emily) Alexander of Arlington; and daughter, Shanna (Luis) Argote of Southlake, TX. She was a precious and whimsical Mim to 12 grandchildren: Mac, Blake, Kellyn, Hill, Wick, Avery, Izzy, Abe, Eyasu, Gigi, Mateo and Marco. Janna is also survived by her sister, Wanda McMurray, and brother, Jim Murray. Janna was loved by many and will be missed by countless relatives and friends.
The family would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to the caregivers who so gently and graciously cared for Janna during her final days.
Celebration of Life services will be held on Friday, April 2nd at 1:00 p.m. at Gospel City Church in Arlington (2221 W. Park Row Drive, Pantego, Tx 76013).
In lieu of flowers and to honor the life of Janna Alexander, memorials can be made to the Alliance for Children; Tarrant County’s only non-profit organization for protecting children of abuse. The Alexander family would like to continue Janna’s legacy of having a heart for children and families by dedicating a space in her honor within the Arlington location.
