

Joe Woodrice Caughey, 85, of Hurst, Texas passed away Monday, May 27, 2013. He was born on his grandparents’ farm outside of Big Spring, Texas on September 26, 1927. He was the son of Joseph and Florence Gobbel Caughey, and grandson of Wiley and Martha Corder Caughey, and Thomas and Martha Emmert Gobbel. After childhood in the Big Spring area, his family moved to west Fort Worth, where he graduated from Arlington Heights High School. After high school he served in the United States Army, seeing active duty in Alaska after the conclusion of World War II. After his discharge and return to Texas, he attended Abilene Christian University, studying business. Tiring of that he moved on to greener pastures, eventually becoming employed at the Fort Worth City Hall where he met his future wife, recently graduated from high school. On November 24, 1950 he was married to Kathryn Anne, daughter of Walter and Mary Campbell Henson. He worked in credit and finance, returning to college at The University of Texas at Arlington, studying accounting. He eventually decided that sales was his forte and became a successful salesman of heavy construction equipment. He had a lifelong love for golf, and in retirement made up for lost time. He was proud to make the acquaintance of and become friends with Byron Nelson, through Church membership. He inherited his father’s interest in bowling and enjoyed a number of years of achievement and awards. His favorite activity in late retirement was watching the Texas Rangers, and he was especially pleased with their recent successes. He loved music, especially hymns and in late life developed an appreciation for “praise” music. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, most recently at The Hills Church. He loved western movies, and all things cowboy, especially John Wayne. His religion, his patriotism, and his family were of utmost importance. He was predeceased by his mother and father, his mother and father-in-law, numerous aunts and uncles, a number of close friends and cousins, and his uncle and closest friend Gene Gobbel. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Kathryn Anne, his son Gary Woodrice Caughey of Hurst, his daughter and son-in-law Delaina Anne and Don Binnicker of Euless, daughter and son-in-law Lisa Kay and Wallace Thorne of Conroe, daughter and son-in-law Laurie Beth and Frederick Anderson of Conroe; grandchildren and their spouses Jennifer and Jason Lynn of Pearland, Dustin Binnicker and Nicole of Austin, Erik Binnicker and Heather of Bedford, Sandy Binnicker and Sperry of Saginaw, Cerissa Blair of Omaha, Nebraska, and Kathryn “Katie” and Kent “Buddy” Anderson of Texas City; great-grandchildren Kayleigh, Morgan, Peyton, and Cooper Lynn of Pearland, Kaleb and Christian Blair of Omaha, and Dane Binnicker of Austin. A memorial service with military honors will be held at Moore Funeral Home Chapel in Arlington on Monday June 3 at 12:30
