I remember him as kind person who relished the opportunity to share his vast knowledge with those inclined to take what he offered. He was my fathers friend when I was young boy. In the times we spent camping or fishing I always learned new and interesting things by way of the conversations he and my father would have. And when I would have a question, Kerry would answer in a way that made me feel part of the conversation -- a participant rather than a bystander. Maybe it was his humble grace or his desire to teach but he impacted me and my memory of him remains. 

He seemed to disappear from our life (my Dad's, my younger brother's and mine). I remember in the months after the last time we saw Kerry asking my Dad we he had been and if we might be planning an outing soon. My Dad seemed to be at a loss for words or an adequate way to answer my question...I think I was 11 or 12 at the time.

When my Dad past away I asked another one of his friends (Randy Kitchens) about Kerry. Randy being another person who I have fond childhood memories of, offered my a little bit more insight. ...I was in my early 30s at that time and able to understand a couple of things. That being, why my Dad had a hard time responding to me when I asked about Kerry AND that my Dad always did whatever he could to protect/shield my brother and I from the harsh realities of a complicated world. 

Kerry and my Father lie in rest at Moore Cemetery...hopefully, they have found each other again in heaven. I'm certain my Dad welcomed back the presence of a long, lost friend.

I, too taught at Sam Houston.  Can't say that I had many interactions with him.

As a friend and fellow teacher at Sam Houston, Kerry was a dear friend and colleague. I never saw him without a smile and he always had a kind word for everyone. We usually had our morning coffee together before the day started.  It was a great ritual and tradition. Even though he retired from Sam, his spirit lives on.  May he rest in peace.

I am so very sorry for the loss of such a wonderful husband, father, brother and dear friend.
I think my John was one of the angels that came to carry him home.  No better a best friend could John  have had than Kerry.
