Larry Michael Lommel was born October 25, 1953, in Wallace, Idaho to educators Robert Francis Lommel, Sr. and Lola Arlene (Wieber) Lommel. His first word was reported to be “Ah” for big brother Robbie (Robert, Jr.) Brotherly love was expressed through wrestling and teasing. Proverbs 17:17
During his elementary years the family moved through the Dakotas until finally settling in Glenwood, Minnesota on beautiful Lake Minnewaska. Larry loved the water and was often found rerouting it. Larry played sports and the tuba, but he outshined all others in high school theater productions. He went to Boy’s State and received the American Legion Student award. Larry was cast as The King in the 6th grade operetta of Rumpelstiltskin. The miller’s daughter was Joyce Eleanor Femrite. We became best friends. Larry married Joyce on June 28, 1975. They spun straw into gold together through John, Sara, Juli, and Paul. Larry was so proud of his kids. Psalm 127
Larry graduated from University of Minnesota in 1976 with a bachelor's degree in accounting, with distinction. He worked for Land O’ Lakes and Dean Foods throughout the Midwest until being transferred to Oak Farms Dairy in the great state of Texas in 2007. (Yee-haw.) There was milk in his veins. He was most happy when he saved the company money. He retired in 2017 after 40 years which gave him time to visit the kids and play with the grandkids. Micah 6:8
Larry grew up learning about God. After going to an Intervarsity meeting, he asked Jesus to be his Savior and Lord. He often said, “I was 19 before I knew that Jesus loved me.” He had great joy playing Bible baseball with his kids, teaching Sunday School, and working in AWANA. He prayed alone daily, weekly with other men, and he read through the Bible each year. II Timothy 2:1-2
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Joyce; children John (Kristen Kaiser) Lommel, Sara (Mychal) Bruggeman, Juli (Matthew) Hermanson, Paul Lommel; grandchildren Lydia, Justus & Klaus Lommel, Katie, Libby & Emily Bruggeman, Luke & James Hermanson; brother Robert (Rebecca Aguzin) Lommel and many extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents. Romans 8:28-39
