Lauretta Johnson, 94, formerly of Mansfield, Tx., and most recently a resident of Legend Assisted Living, Ft. Worth, Tx., passed away on October 20,2022. Lauretta (Rita to her friends), was a native Floridian and graduated from Mulberry High School. She was the oldest of 4 children born to Leon and Molly Jernigan. She would tell you that the best thing that happened to her there was meeting the love of her life, a young airman named Wayne Johnson, at a dance and promising to marry him when he returned from war. They were married in Chicago, Illinois on May 25th, 1945 until his death on January 15, 2016.
They parented 2 daughters, Laura Anne and Patricia Carol. They lived in Burkburnett, Tx. where Wayne retired from the Air Force in 1962 and Rita was employed as a secretary at Sheppard AFB. They moved a couple of times after that and eventually returned to Arlington, TX. They ran a couple of small businesses before their final retirement.
The Johnsons loved all kinds of games and became excellent Bridge players. They were also active in various sports such as bowling and golf and formed many lasting friendships. They were members of Baptist or Methodist churches. In her later years, Rita formed many friendships and enjoyed all the activities at Legend, especially Bingo.
Rita is predeceased by her husband and her daughter, Patricia (Patti) Henry. She is survived by Patti's husband, Mitchell, her daughter and son-in-law Laura and Jerry Schwertner; 4 grandchildren and their spouses: Glenn and Holly Lambert, Michelle and Adair Smith, Stacy and Scott Hamilton and Allison and Marcus Berger; and 10 great grandchildren: Alan Rollf, Heather Lambert, Claire Lambert, Emma Lambert, Garrett Brown, Campbell Brown, Maria Berger, Benjamin Berger, Savannah Smith and Sierra Smith.
