Le Hong Thi Nguyen Tran was born on December 11, 1939 in Saigon, Vietnam as the only child to Binh Thi Nguyen. Mother and daughter struggled through life together in rural Vietnam and a bowl of rice was a precious commodity. Education was the ticket out of poverty and she earned herself a scholarship to Marie Curie Secondary School. She went on to nursing school and received a degree in 1964. She was swept off her feet by a Navy Captain Ky Dinh Tran. He had picked her out of her college yearbook and told his mother she would be the woman he would marry. In his dress whites, he came to the hospital where she worked and asked her on a date and the rest they say is history. After a honeymoon on the beaches of Da Lat, they lived in the urban city of Saigon. In 1975, war forced them to leave Vietnam with their three children, leaving her mother behind. They were in survival mode to provide for the family. She cleaned houses, did laundry, worked eighteen hour days to make a living and to take care of her family. They became citizens of the United States in 1981. Her greatest joy was being a grandmother. Feeding, bathing, playing, protecting them, she found tremendous happiness in spending time with them. Every picture surrounding her home are of her granddaughters. Her legacy as a daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother and the love and kindness she gave to many friends cannot be forgotten.
She took her last breath in the early Sunday morning of January 5, 2014 and went to peace in the Kingdom of Our Lord. She will now see her mother, husband and son once again. She is survived by her daughters Hanh Hong Tran Norley and Hao Hong Tran and granddaughters Kymille Frances and Hannah Victoria Brown.
