

Loretta Louise Mahaffey passed peacefully on December 28th, 2025 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Loretta was born on February 25,1939 in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada. Her Father was John Franklin Noonan Lidstone born on Prince Edward’s Island and her Mother was Rhoda Winifred Lidstone (Vincent) born in St John, Canada.
She is survived by her sister Valerie Fitzpatrick of St. John Canada. She was preceded in death by her brother Glen Lidstone and her parents.
Loretta moved to the United States in 1961. She later became an American citizen on October 24,1974.
After ending her first marriage, she married James Moore Mahaffey on August 2, 1968. He preceded her in death on January 27,2002.
Loretta received an associates’ degree of Nursing in Canada and went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1982 at University of Texas at Arlington. She ultimately received her master’s in public health at North Texas University.
She had a long career as the Director at John Peter Smith Hospital LVN School in Ft Worth. She was passionate about healthcare and serving others.
Loretta is survived by her three children Elizabeth Thomas, Marsha Purl spouse Terry, and Patrick Mahaffey spouse Wendy and Cynthia Beadle spouse Robert, daughter of James Mahaffey.
Loretta is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Erin Byars, Kevin Thomas and spouse Kristin, Christopher Thomas, Colin Thomas, Keith Thomas and Britainy Guadagnolo spouse Ryan. She is survived by four great grandchildren Ashley Thomas spouse Juneau, Scarlett Thomas, Joshua Byars, Zachary Byars, Joel Guadagnolo and Bo Guadagnolo.
Loretta enjoyed traveling with her friends and was an active member of Genesis Methodist Church of Ft Worth where she participated as a choir member and Stephens Minister. She loved her dogs Lady and Kelly and has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either the North Texas Humane Society or Genesis methodist Church.
