

Margaret Ruth Williams Meador of Arlington, Texas, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2012. She was a cherished family member and friend. Margaret was also an accomplished and deeply beloved professor of the literature and the humanities at Dallas Baptist University and at Texas Wesleyan University for the past sixteen years.
A lifelong Texan, Margaret was born in La Mesa, Texas. She graduated from Waco High School in 1958. Her parents, Dr. H. V. and Ruth Williams, taught at Baylor University. Margaret received her B.A. degree from Baylor as a distinguished operatic performer. She received a Master’s degree in music from Florida State University and a Master’s degree in humanities from UT-Arlington. She taught English at Westbury High School in Houston prior to relocating to Arlington, and having settled in the Metroplex, she masterfully taught English at several schools before embarking on her professorships at DBU and Texas Wesleyan.
Margaret passed away after a most valiant journey with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. She is to be remembered for her wit, wisdom, love of life, and steadfast courage. Her students will remember her for her inspiration and tireless commitment to them and for her devotion to the humanities and humanistic learning. She also encouraged and inspired students in their journey of faith. She wanted to be remembered for her love of her family and for her many passions, particularly building peace and justice everywhere, alleviating global hunger, and ending cruelty to animals around the world. Her students and colleagues will remember her as an accomplished scholar of world literature and cultures with a remarkable ability to bring these subjects to life for her students. Her family will always treasure her delightful sense of humor, her warmth, her kindness and compassion, and her joy in living.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Meador Brown, her son-in-law Daren Brown, and her treasured grandchild Duncan Gabriel Brown. She is also survived by her sisters, Lisa Hayes and Catherine Williams; her sister-in-law Sandra Williams and brother-in-law Jim Veninga; her nieces, Jenny Veninga, Suzanne Stoner, and Christine Kiss; and her former husband and longtime friend, Pete Meador. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Hendley V. Williams III.
A visitation will be held on Friday, February 17th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home in Arlington.
