Marilyn Sue Johns passed on Thursday, June 9, 2022. Our family grieves her loss, but know she is in a better place than we are at this time. We are a family of faith and we believe that she is safe and once again whole with God. She joins members of her family that have gone on before, who welcomed her with joy and open arms.
These include her parents Margaret “Sue” Wright Webb, and Earl Wilson Johns, Jr. Together again, Marilyn and Sue were rarely apart in life. Her grandparents, Hubert Coy Wright and Helen Rowena Sneed Wright welcomed her on the sunny Thursday evening. Marilyn is survived by her sisters and their families, Kathy and Chuck Carder of Victoria, Texas; Barbara and Troy Nichols of Georgetown, Texas. Her legacy continues with her four nieces and nephews: Mark Cravy, Michelle Cravy Hubert, Natalie Nichols Wyll, and Nolan Nichols.
Marilyn was born in Irving, Texas on December 6, 1971. Always considered the beloved baby, she was doted on and most content with her family at home on Hughes Ave. where the majority of her life unfolded. Marilyn’s happiest times were with this circle of support, watching her friends on her “shows.” Marilyn’s intellectual and physical difficulties made her life arduous, but this circle protected and loved her immensely. She loved to laugh and celebrate with good food, which she defined as spaghetti and a Happy Meal. She enjoyed country music, but appreciated Michael Jackson as the King of Pop. While she and her mother had many pets, it all began with Marilyn’s little PM, and this little pooch was 100% Miss Marilyn’s. Today, she is playing with him, unburdened of the physical limitations of her life.
Marilyn was a kind soul with a brilliant smile that brought love to those who loved her. Marilyn always celebrated and found joy in the simple things of life, and there is much to be learned from her appreciation of everyday joys; a great cup of coffee, a mother’s love. Esther 4:14 says “Perhaps this is the moment for which you have been created.” My mother cared for Marilyn both gallantly and tirelessly. However, Marilyn gave my mother her greatest purpose and joy in life and they were and are truly “better together.”
In closing, our family would like to thank her neighbor, Michael Richards; the truest of friends, always helping with Marilyn and giving Sue support. We wish to thank the staff of Falcon Ridge Nursing Home, and the grace and compassion offered from the New Century Hospice workers, doctors, nurses, and clergy who cared for Marilyn in her final hours.
