Martha Jo McAfee-Malec

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church on Saturday, 10 June at 10:00 AM with Senior Pastor Doug Wider. A private graveside service will follow. She is loved and her joyous presence will be missed by all who knew her.

Martha Jo McAfee-Malec passed from this life to the next on May 27th at William P. Clements University Hospital in Dallas, Texas surrounded by her loved ones.

Martha was born on January 30, 1936, to David and Mae Bryant in Dallas, Texas. She attended Dallas public schools and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1953. She married Wycliffe “Wick” McAfee in Dallas, Texas on August 20, 1954. They had four children. Wick sadly passed away on May 27, 1991.

Martha worked in the business world for many years and later went on to earn her B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Adult Education. She taught Special Ed and served as AISD Curriculum Coordinator. She retired from the Arlington Public School System after over 20 years of service. She continued on sharing her expertise through consulting with educators from across the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex in planning their retirement and insurance needs. She was still working in this capacity until the time of her passing.

In early 2000, her relationship with Richard “Dick” Malec began to bloom and they ultimately married on November 11, 2011 in Arlington, Texas. Martha and Dick developed an enduring, nurturing and loving marriage. Through health and sickness, they remained dedicated to each other enjoying travel and many heartwarming memories.

Martha was a long-time member of Scofield Memorial Church and, more recently, a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Arlington, Texas. She modeled her Christian faith and was a lifelong contributor to mission work around the world. One of her fondest memories was participating in mission work in Romania.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wycliffe, their son, Tim, and Dick’s son, Dewey.

Martha is survived by her husband, Dick, his sister Charlotte Humphreys and husband Danny as well as his children: Karen Sue Dies and husband, Tommy; Sharon Ann Moore and husband, Steve; Jennifer Ann Riley; Kathryn Renee Malec and her fiancé, Callen Breen; their ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Martha is also survived by her and Wick’s children: Paula Weatherford and husband Mike; Patrick McAfee; Michael McAfee; and their four grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. As well as numerous family and friends.

She is loved and her joyous presence will be missed by all who knew her.
