Mary Helen Minch Stoycos died on Thursday, October 27, 2022. Mary was born in Bryant, Indiana, on August 2, 1933, the second oldest of five children of the late Mathias John and Julia Rose (Remaklus) Minch. Graduating valedictorian from her high school class (where she was also Homecoming Queen), Mary began a career in the airline industry with the highlight being a trip to Japan when she worked for Japan Airlines. She also worked for Lufthansa and American.
Meeting Ted Stoycos on a blind date, she married him on May 22, 1960, and his job brought them to Texas - first Dallas, then Arlington - where they made lifelong friends, raised their two children, and rooted for the Dallas Cowboys. Mary and Ted loved to point out that their move to Texas coincided with the formation of the football team, and upon her retirement she volunteered at St. Maria Goretti and took great pleasure in working at the brand new Cowboys Stadium as an usher. She was cherished by her co-workers and the season ticket holders in her section.
Mary was dedicated to her family and friends, her Catholic faith, and the Cowboys; and she will be remembered for her fierce loyalty to all of them (except Jerry Jones). She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Ted, to whom she was married for 49 years at the time of his death; her parents; her sister JoAnn; and her brothers Eddie, John, and David. She is survived by her son Stephen (Carol) of Westerville, Ohio; her daughter Eleni (Shaun) Beaty of Rio Verde, Arizona; her six grandchildren Alex, Michael, Thomas, and Peter Stoycos, and Austin and Ashley Beaty; and many loving in-laws, nieces, and nephews. She will be deeply missed.
We would like to thank the Vinsons for their incredible love and support of Mary after Ted passed away and the dedicated staff at Arden Courts for their wonderful care of her during her last years.
A visitation for Mary will be held Sunday, November 13, 2022 from 1:00 PM TO 5:00 PM at Moore Funeral Home. A funeral service will occur November 14, 2022 at St Maria Goretti Catholic Church at 10 AM.
In lieu of flowers, we request that you make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association or to your favorite charity. Go, Cowboys!
