MJ "Grandad", a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend was born on June 29, 1945 in Savannah, Georgia to Wilfred and Annette Spong. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A baker by trade, "there was no one better." He traded in his apron for a hammer to work in the Long Term Care industry as a Maintenance Director. He had a story for everyone and a laugh to go with it. He was a Lutheran and professed his sins and accepted the Lord into his life. He fought hard to remain with those who loved him the most, enduring many hardships over the last few years. For the extra time we were given, many thanks to The Liver Institute at Methodist Medical Center and the 4BT staff for their many acts of love and kindness. We will always remember "Grandad" and cherish his undying memory that will forever fill the quiet places of our hearts. Survivors: three months shy of 40 years, his loving wife, Thelma Spong; daughters, Brenda Wright, Thelma Roberts, Billie Jean Rice, Michelle Spong; son, Timothy Spong; sister, Pamela Hogue; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
