O. D. was our next door neighbor.  We were very good friends all the years  after he and his lovely wife, (now deceased), moved next door  She lost her life a number of years ago, and my husband passed away about 3 years ago.  He loved  our dog, Callie, as she reminded him of a miniature Dachshund he once owned.  She is now deceased, but he welcomed  our next Dachshund, Lucy, and loved to hold her also.  

I  so miss standing in the yard and talking about whatever was  happening in the world around us.  He had many friends who loved him.

OD Brown was “one in a million!” A true gentleman, with integrity, honor, and class!  He hired me into the FAA, and we remained close friends for 40+ years…  OD was the most generous man I have ever met in my entire life!  He was always helping others, without expecting anything in return…  Thank you, OD, for the beautiful memories, I will cherish them forever…  We will always love you! Mr. Brown was our favorite guest..He quickly became a friend and a part of our  CB family...He will truly be missed

I first met O.D. when he came to Fleet Support Squadron 24 Detachment at Naval Air Station, Rota, Spain in the mid 1970's.  He was the Assistant OIC and he took me under his wing as we were both TAR officers at the time.  My wife, "Charlie" and his wife, Cora (and her twin sister Nora) became good friends.  O.D.  was already a legend in the Navy.  He seemed to know everyone.  When he got selected as Captain he threw a Navy "wetting down party" for the entire squadron.  And I mean EVERYONE including officers and enlisted.  It was a the Enlisted Club so everyone could attend.  That's just the kind of guy he was. He got orders to NAS Dallas as the Base Executive Officer and later I got orders to NAS Detroit.  Cora used to tell a story that when O.D. came home and told her I was going to Detroit, she gave him the old "Cora stare."  Next thing I knew my orders were changed to NAS Dallas. Those were good years.  O.D. retired from the Navy and became an American Airlines simulator instructor.  We had dinner at each others house once or twice a week.  Throughout my Navy and airline careers I always went to O.D. for advice and he also gave it to me straight.  I remember when he finally got on with the FAA.  He was so happy. He was always so interested in our kids and to this day they call him Uncle O.D.  I would have dinner with him when I had Dallas layovers and then when I was in Dallas for conferences and meetings after I was with a aviation R&D company.  Always a GREAT gentleman.  One of the few REAL 
legends in his own time.  My whole family will miss him.  Al Herndon

OD was a legend, an icon and did it his way.   I first met OD while  I was working in the industry, noting the respect everyone showed him.    Twenty-some years later, when I reported for my first day of work with the FAA, he asked me why it took so long to get there.   I felt very welcome although nervous.  If his door was open, he was typically available for advice which spilled over into a wonderful recount of a life story.   Thank you for being my manager, a mentor and for so many  memories.

Rest in peace, OD, Cora has been waiting for you.        

OD was by far the best Manager I served under during my 30 plus years with the FAA.  He was a father figure for me, always willing to provide advise and guidance.  You'll be missed sir! My favorite OD story:  We were in a labor relations class.  The instructor was explaining that geese while flying in formation, will occasional change leadership.  On the other hand once a buffalo herd establishes a leader, they will follow that leader even if the leader runs off a cliff.  The instructor asked OD, "OD, so are you a goose or a buffalo?"  OD's response:  "I'm a buffalo, and always will be!" And that pretty much sums up OD!  Rest in peace sir!     

OD was a wonderful Boss and a friend. I was his administrative officer for 22 years in the FAA.  We shared many memories during those years.  OD, you will be missed.  Love you.

So much can be said about OD, he was such an Icon.  A Great Man who cared so much about others.  His service to his country can never be repaid.  May he rest in Peace.  I've traveled extensively throughout my FAA career and have visited many different locations. One of the best places I've been was to OD's office.  Always a great visit.  He will be missed.   

Condolences to OD’s family. He was a wonderful person that was always willing to help and be a mentor. He will always be remembered for his dedication and work with the FAA.

OD Brown the man who has hired just about everyone in the Southwest Region of the FAA is the first thing that comes to my mind. The next thing I was told from the inspectors when I asked why is everyone wearing shirts and ties, because that’s OD’s policy. Everybody knows that!  Oh Mr. Brown how you will surely be missed. You were one of a kind. A good man, a good leader and a great friend.  Rest in peace 🙏🏻

I consider O. D. Brown (USN ret) the best “civilian boss” I ever had, along with my best military commanders BGen Robin Olds and LtCol Max Brestel.   He always encouraged and mentored everyone, professionally and personally.   Any success I had at the FAA,  I attribute to his exemplary leadership.   I will always remember that he and his beloved wife took special time to attend my daughter’s funeral in 1997.   God’s speed, O.D., blessings and tailwinds always.

OD Brown was a great boss and friend.  OD gave me my first opportunity to work as his Secretary in the FAA, that was a blessing just as he was a blessing not only to me but to many colleagues. I used to tell him that he was like a huge teddy bear with a huge heart ♥️  OD was a gentleman with the highest integrity and he was also a great educator to many administrative folks not familiar with aviation. Mr Brown hired me too. He was a managers manager.  He was always checking his six looking for anyone who needed his guidance. We all have many OD stories to carry with us and comfort us. We will never forget you.  Rest in heaven with your bride Mr Brown. She has you again by her side. Sally M

OD was truly a remarkable man and the attributes I admire most are his honesty, integrity, and tenacity. As my career in the FAA flourished, I was fondly reminded by OD to never sacrifice your own principles and always try to do the right thing. OD was never reluctant to set a good example of what integrity meant for his employees. He also set an example of what integrity looked like to his upper management. (Many stories can be shared on this).

OD Brown was a wonderful man! I loved working for him in the FAA. I can still hear his voice and his laugh. He promoted me to an Administrative Officer.  I will never forget him. May he rest in peace. 

Mr. O. D. Brown was a real mentor to so many of us in FAA. He was a gentle giant always interested in aviation safety and growing the workforce to do our best. I’ll miss his stories and simple approach to life. Rest easy, Mr. Brown. We’ll see you on the other side. 

OD was first class in every way. His method of oversight at the FAA made you want to work as hard as possible in the name of safety. OD was passionate about his job and compassionate toward others. We could all learn from OD. A true gentleman. 

OD will always be remembered as a “one of a kind” individual. His professionalism, kindness and caring demeanor are but a few traits I admired about him. He always represented the FAA in the most exemplary manner with concern for safety, always. When he spoke, his words were pure wisdom. I admired him greatly. OD, it’s time for “the big rodeo” and what a ride it will be! Your memory is truly a blessing to all who knew you.

The world has lost one of the greatest of men.  I worked with OD and found him to be a tremendous gentleman with the highest level of integrity.  OD was gracious, helpful, and very knowledgeable.  I never had the pleasure of flying with him but knew he was accomplished.  What the world has lost, heaven has gained.

Mr. Brown (OD) was someone that I held in very high regard and a friend.    I admired the generosity of his time that he afforded those who came to him with thoughts and concerns about various topics.  He always seemed to take a very genuine interest in others and offer what he could towards helping them to find a solution to whatever it was they were dealing with - both professional and personal.    He will be missed.

Heaven gained a true gentleman and one heck of a pilot. Those angels may need some training. This man had integrity that many young men wouldn’t even recognize today. He was old school and he expected his employees to be the same. We didn’t fight it. We loved him for it. He was truly one in a million. When look back over my FAA career,  my favorite days were those spent with Mr. Brown,

We’ll forever think of you when we see men in coats and ties. We’ll forever strive to do the right thing because you would expect that from us. 

Rest in peace and know that your work here is done. Join your bride, as she’s been waiting.
