

Royce Lynn Lawson, age 89, of Arlington, Texas left this earthly home quite peacefully on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. In Arlington, Texas surrounded by family. Royce Lynn Lawson was born on Friday April 10, 1936, in Fort Worth, Texas to Herbert and Emily Lawson. Royce was raised in Arlington and Graduated from Arlington High School in 1954. He then attended Arlington Baptist College and TCU where he graduated in 1980. Royce honorably served 8 years in the Naval Reserve as a Radar Specialist searching for submarines.
He married the love of his life Mary Lou in July of 1958, and the couple had one child, Terri. Royce was a supervisor in planning at General Dynamic in Fort Worth where he worked for more than 33 years. In his spare time, Royce enjoyed traveling, camping, hunting, playing golf, working outside, painting/drawing. His true joy was spending time with his grandchildren Alex and Grant, rarely missing any of their hockey, football, basketball, baseball games or school events. Prior to having grandchildren, Mary and Royce were avid bowlers and they traveled all over for Royce to compete in tournaments. They were also actively involved in Eastern Star and the Masons, where he proudly earned his 33rd degree and Mary served as Worthy Matron. Later they joined the Shriner's Moslah Temple and Royce played in the Shriner's Drum and Bugle Corps. Royce and his dear wife were also active in their church. Royce and Mary, along with Linda Lummus started a Bible Study on Monday nights more than 20 years ago and for 17 years they met in Royce and Mary's home. The Monday Night Group is still going strong but is online now and its members "Zoom" in from all over the world.
His family and friends will always remember him as a faithful husband of Mary a loving and devoted father to Terri and the best "Boppa" ever to Alex and Grant and all their friends. Royce was tenderhearted but stoic. He was always steady, solid. He was a godly man who loved the Lord. He was a man of integrity; always honorable and good.
Royce is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Mary Lou, parents, Herbert and Emily Lawson, and younger brother Boyce Lawson, who preceded him just two months before.
Royce is survived by his daughter Terri Howell and her husband Patrick of Arlington, grandsons Alexander Coney and Grant Coney, Sister-in-law Barbara Lawson of Edmond Oklahoma, her children Aaron Lawson, Kristi Lawson, Brittany Lawson, of Edmond, OK, Michelle Scott and her husband Eric of Guthrie, Ok, great nieces and nephews, Kaedyn Scott and Landon Scott, Alyssa, Aiden and Ava Hautz, and his Monday Night Group
A Celebration of Life will be held June 21, 2025, at 11:00 am in the sanctuary at Fielder Church- Pioneer Campus 2011 S. Fielder Rd. Arlington, TX 76013. A luncheon will be held immediately following the service at the church.
A private interment will be held in July.
