Sandy’s passion for her family was matched by her drive to be the change that she wanted to see in the world. She embodied this in her activism as a mentor, aunt, mom, sister, sorority sister, sister-in-law, St.Stephen United Methodist church’s woman of the year 1999 and 2009, coach, dear friend, healthcare advocate and as co-founder of the Tarrant County CHIP coalition.
She helped establish the Sandy and Larry Lutz reporting scholarship through the University of Nebraska Foundation and held MDA ALS particularly close to her heart. This enthusiasm and passion for others, personally and in the community, stems from her desire to grow and understand what kind of change she could be.
An early seed, if not the first, was her summer job at Glacier National Park in 1974. From there she continued to instill the love of nature in future generations as well as the joy of exploration, knowledge and understanding.
As she bloomed through life she continued to plant that seed in her children, family, friends, basketball and softball players, coworkers and anyone she met. Everyone who knew Sandy knew about her passion, if not all her passions.
When each of daughters followed in her footsteps to work and live in national parks, Sandy told them, “You really can’t appreciate how wonderful God made this world until you get out and live in it.”
Sandy was born in Omaha, NE May 21, 1955. She previously lived in Kansas City and Memphis. She is also survived by her brother Randy Mohr and his wife Cindy, three nieces and three nephews. Her parents Ron and Shirley Mohr preceded her in death.
