

Sheila Jane McLeod was born to Nellie Heinderman/Hinderman McLeod and William Charles McLeod on October 7, 1951 in Richmond, Virginia. She sent her first few years in Hopewell, VA. After moving to Ettrick, VA while in kindergarten, Sheila, along with her sister, Yolanda and several other black students became litigants in a lawsuit to integrate the county school system. Sheila Jane McLeod, et al vs. the County School Board of Chesterfield County, Virginia, et al. After graduating from Matoaca High School in 1970, Sheila graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University and began her work experience in Richmond, VA. Later, Sheila moved to Arlington, TX where she followed her dreams of helping others and began her career with the Texas Department of Human Services as a social worker and as a workshop facilitator. Sheila loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she put her beautiful soprano vocal skills to good use by singing in the choir for over 20 years. Ever the diva, Sheila was known for her sense of style, quick wit, beauty, kindness, and grace. Sheila also loved to shop and never failed to tell her family and friends about sales going on at her favorite stores.
Left to cherish her memory are her brothers Harold Hinderman, Ft. Worth, TX, and Dr. Charles L. McLeod (Beatrice), Glen Allen, VA, her sisters Priscilla Elaine Robinson (Kenneth, M.D.), Charleston, SC, Yolanda McLeod Hall, Glendale, CA, Kimberli McLeod Rivers (Walter), Northridge, CA, and her Aunt Gayola Hinderman Adams, Chicago, IL. Sheila is also survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Sheila was predeceased by her parents and her brother Joseph Hinderman (Margaret).
Though she is absent in the body, Sheila is present with the lord!
