

Verla was born September 23, 1927 in San Augustine County, Texas, daughter of the late Hardy and Mary Beard of Broaddus, Texas. She married Edgar Hollis Snell in September 1945, who served in the US Army for 26 years.
Verla retired in 1987 from the Army & Air Force Exchange Service after a 25 year career. Her job allowed her to travel extensively throughout all 50 states and internationally. Her enjoyment of travel continued even after retirement with her husband, family, and friends. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Arlington and very much enjoyed studying God’s Word. Verla was devoted to her family and loved children. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-mother and was known to many as Nanny.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years in 1997; a grandson, Brian Turner; her parents; and seven brothers, Melvin, Hardy II, Wallace, Dorman, Carl, Jerry, and Dewey Beard.
Verla is survived by her children: Nema Bohls and husband Randy of Georgetown, Noma Arrington and husband Gary of Aledo, Darlene Newton and husband Harrell of Kingsland, Michael Snell and wife Mollie of Granbury and Butch Turner of Keller. Grandchildren: Gary Brown and wife Ann Corso, Larry and Sonya Brown, Justin and Katy Bohls, Blake and Michelle Arrington, Lance and Laurie Arrington, Jon Arrington, Kimberly Lagow, Kara McLeroy, Darrell and Lisa Turner, Amy and Thomas Peterson, Aubrea Newton, James and Nga Newton, Micah and Chris Fernihough, and Kenzie Snell. She was blessed with 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Sisters: Lennie Lakey, Winnie Davis, and Bennie Collins. Many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be grandsons; Gary Brown, Larry Brown, Darrell Turner, Justin Bohls, Blake Arrington, Lance Arrington and Chris Fernihough.
Funeral services and interment will be 10:15am on 9 April at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm on 8 April at the Moore Funeral Home, 1219 North Davis St., Arlington. Family requests contributions be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, nationalmssociety.org, in lieu of flowers.
