Verna attended Arlington High School in Arlington, Texas. On December 5, 1962, she married Troy D. Gardner. Verna spent most of her career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and then went on to work for Cooks Children's Hospital. She was a member of Turning Point Church.
Verna was survived by her husband, Troy D. Gardner; her children: Linda Gardner and her husband, Gerry Friberg, and Cheryl Miles and her husband, Randy Miles; her grandchildren: Joshua Brooks, Whitt Brooks, Courtney Brooks and her husband, Cody Cole, Amber Gardner, and Amanda Gardner; and her great grandchildren: Autumn Cole and, soon to be, Rowan Cole. She was preceded in death by her son, Brian Gardner.
