Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please give to the children's ministry at Pantego Bible Church, as Uncle Bill would have wanted.
William P. Sweaney was known as a Dad, a Papaw, an Uncle Bill, and a beloved "Pops," but most of all he was known for his love and generosity toward everyone who was blessed enough to cross his path. What a blessing it was when, on May 12, 1918, Bill was born, something that would impact the lives of innumerable people for the next 93 years, up until the day of his death, Aug. 3, 2011.
Although he was decorated with the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his courageous efforts in World War II and is esteemed in the hearts of so many, Bill was a humble man, giving all credit to the Lord he served so faithfully. His success in business as a founder of Air Rite Air Conditioning Co. granted him an avenue to do what he did best, follow God's will by giving to others.
His life revolved around family, friends and the Lord, so it is no surprise that so many of his life's works were in ministry. From his many years as "Uncle Bill," a Sunday school teacher extraordinaire to the many generations of 2-year-olds he loved and cared for, to his financial support for the building of churches in Indonesia where his daughter and son-in-law served as missionaries, to his loyal service to Pantego Christian Academy, where he dutifully worked up until the end of his life, Bill was an amazing man of God. Bill's love will continue to mold the hearts of all until the day we greet our Dad, our Pops, and our Uncle Bill at heaven's gates.
Survivors: Wife, Nona; daughters and their husbands, Suzanne and Jerry Cline, and Sharon and Tom Wilson; his grandchildren, Toby Cline, Katie Cline and Michelle Wilson; brother, Richard Sweaney; and the numerous people who considered him like family.
