With his family by his side, Jerome Travers Lienhard II, age 66, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2023, in Atlanta, Georgia. Perhaps best known for his professional accomplishments spanning his 40+ year career in the financial services and banking industries, Jerome leaves behind a legacy rich in family, friendship, and love.
Born and raised in La Canada, California, Jerome was a proud USC Trojan, earning both his bachelor’s and master's degrees from the University of Southern California. He settled in Atlanta with his wife Sue and their three children in 2006 after joining SunTrust Bank as Senior Vice President and Treasurer. He was named President and Chief Executive Officer of SunTrust Mortgage in 2011 and became Chief Risk Officer of SunTrust Bank in 2015 where he ended his career doing what he loved. Prior to joining SunTrust, he was Senior Vice President and Treasurer for Freddie Mac and Corporate Treasury Manager for Toyota Motor Credit Corporation.
Jerome will be remembered as a loving husband, father, proud “Baba” (grandfather), supportive "big" brother, and friend to many. Second only to family was his love of travel. He lived a life filled with purpose and the uncanny ability to seize opportunities. As an avid surfer in his younger years, he had a unique perspective on life – much like waves in the ocean there are ups and downs, sometimes you fall, but getting back up and looking to the horizon will always present a new opportunity for the best ride of your life.
Jerome is preceded in death by his parents, Pat and Jerry Lienhard, and his brother, Jim Lienhard.
He is survived by his brother John, his loving wife Sue and their three children Alexandra (Lienhard) Briglia, Colin Lienhard, and Meggi Lienhard; and his two grandsons, Bobby and JJ Briglia, who were the brightest source of joy and entertainment in his retirement years.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a visitation and rosary in Jerome’s honor on Monday, January 16 from 4 pm – 7 pm at H.M. Patterson & Son-Oglethorpe Hill Chapel in Atlanta (https://www.dignitymemorial.com/funeral-homes/atlanta-ga/hm-patterson-son-oglethorpe-hill-chapel/4946). A funeral Mass will be held in celebration of his life on Tuesday, January 17 at 10 am at Christ the King Catholic Church in Atlanta (https://cathedralctk.com).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jerome’s name to the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation at pkdcure.org/tribute, a charity close to his heart as it is the genetic disease that defined his life, and ultimately his death.
As Jerome continued to stress to those around him until he couldn’t stress it any longer, he lived a life full of laughter, love, a bit of blood, sweat and tears, and was ultimately at peace knowing that what’s to come will be his greatest adventure yet.
