

Lewiston - Donald L. Vachon, 56, of Lewiston, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday February 23, 2012 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center with his family at his side. Don was born in Portland on November 1, 1955 the son of the late Roland and Liette (Bechard) Vachon. He attended local schools graduating from Lewiston High School in 1974. On August 27, 1976 he married the love of his life Susan LaFlamme. Together they worked and raised their young family in the Lewiston-Auburn area. He was a firefighter for the City of Lewiston retiring in 2003. He had a passion for his career as a Fireman. He could always be heard talking, usually loudly, about his pride in his profession. He was currently working for The Auburn City Hall Department. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, Holy Family Church, The Webber Avenue Club, Lewiston Paint Golf League, Tuesday night Fox Ridge Golf League, a past member of the L & A Slow Pitch Softball League. Although he had many interests, his great loves in life were his wife Susan, his children and more recently his beautiful grandchildren. Don truly loved his time spent with his family and friends, especially being on vacation with them.
Don is survived by his wife of 35 years, Susan, two daughters: Becky Evans and her husband Jack of Pooler, Georgia; Nicole Tammaro and her husband Nick of Cape Elizabeth; three grandchildren: Emily Evans, Avery Evans, and Ryan Tammaro; four sisters: Denise Vachon, Constance Sylvester, Sandra Slowik and her husband Glen and Celine Dodge and her husband Tom; his father in law: Marcel LaFlamme; his brother in law: Danny LaFlamme; his sisters in law: Doris Veilleux and her husband Don, Irene Gagne and her husband Glenn, Nancy Bosse and her husband John and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his mother in law Theresa LaFlamme. Visitation to be held at Fortin/Auburn on Tuesday from 5 PM to 8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM at The Funeral Home in Auburn followed by committal services at St. Peter's Cemetery in Lewiston.
